The Schubertian
(ISSN 1740 7117)
The Schubertian is the journal of the SIUK. Over the years it has grown from a handful of pages produced somewhat irregularly, to the current journal which appears every quarter, and is now usually around 20-32 A5 (up to issue 31 it was A4) pages. This page gives details of the major contents of the back issues of the Journal.
Back copies of the Journal are still available. Since the production of The Schubertian is funded by the membership fees of our members, they are able to buy back issues at a discount compared to non-members. However, please feel free to join the institute, to be able to take advantage of that discount. We can usually offer a discount for bulk purchases. Payments for individual copies may be made here through Paypal, (but check with us for availability first, though at the time of writing (Oct 2007) all copies can be provided.). The cost of an individual back copy of The Schubertian is £2.50 for members and £5.00 for non members (this does NOT include the cover CD for those issues that included one. These CDs are available separately, for £3 per CD).
All copies of The Schubertian are also available in PDF form (without cover CDs). These will usually be emailed to you. The cost of the complete set of The Schubertian in PDF form to date is £10.00 for members and £20.00 for non members, or £28.00. for non-members with a year's membership. If you do not have a PDF viewer, these are available for download at www.adobe.com.

Note that volumes 1-12 of the Journal were simply known as The Schubert Institute (UK) Newsletter. The Editors were: Elizabeth Norman McKay, volumes 1-4; Paul Reid, volumes 5-18 and 34; Richard Morris, volumes 19-33 and 35-6. From volume 37 the editor has been Crawford Howie. This collection of editors neatly mirrors the breadth of membership of the Institute since they are, in order, a distinguished musicologist, a gifted amateur, a 'fan' and an academic with special interest in Schubert (and Bruckner). In this listing, Brille is used as an abbreviation for Schubert durch die Brille, the journal of IFSI.
The journal has slowly evolved in style and content, but each issue now has content under a number of regular sections: Reports on various events; Articles on a variety of Schubert oriented subjects; Reviews of Books, Recordings, etc.; other major sections as required; plus news In Brief, Letters to the Editor, when required, Upcoming Events, etc.
