Goodies Available from:The Schubert Institute (UK)
The Schubert Institute (UK) is not a retail organisation, but from time to time, we do have Schubert Oriented things for sale. Generally speaking, we do not set out to make a huge profit from these activities, as they will have been initiated for the benefit of our members, so you can assume that they are 'good value'. Nevertheless, we always welcome the trickle of funds these ventures generate! We have just started an occasional series of publications, which are automatically sent to our members with copies of their journals. We will normally publish extra copies of these which will be available, at a nominal fee, until the supply runs out! The SIUK Schubert Bicentenary Commemorative MedallionThe most important item we have available is the Schubert commemorative medallion. We produced a limited edition of 500 of these to commemorate the bicentenary of Schubert's birth in 1997, in bronze, gold plate or solid silver. Most were snapped up by our members, and members of the public through our adverts in music magazines, but we do have a limited quantity of the bronze medallions left, the silver and gold plate having already been sold out.
The medallions are 2 inches in diameter, with the head of Schubert by SIUK member Brian Pinder, after W. A. Rieder, on the obverse, and an incipit of An die Musik on the obverse. The inscription on the obverse reads "Franz Peter Schubert . 31 Jan 1797 - 19 Nov 1828", and on the reverse "The Schubert Institute (UK) . Bicentenary Celebration". I was very pleasantly surprised when mine arrived. They come in a transparent plastic case and will be a most welcome addition to any Schubert enthusiast's collection of Schubertiana. These medallions are now available for £10 inc. post in the
