Notes: Yearbook of the Adler genealogical society, of particular interest because of a long article Franz Schubert Herkunft und Verwandtschaft by Heinz Schöny on Schubert's family tree, with over 300 names.

Notes: A special "Schubert Number". Kriehuber portrait of Schubert on front. Articles include "Franz Peter Schubert - Biographical", "Schubert's Rank as a composer and his influence on the Romantic School", "The sadness of Schubert's Life", "Schubert and the German Lied", "The Man Schubert", "The Characteristics of Schubert's Genius". Music by Schubert and others. Many otherEtudes have significant Schubert articles, but this appears to be the only Schubert Special.

Notes: A special edition of the Music and Letters magazine for the Schubert death centenary, following the very successful Beethoven special the year before. About 100 pages with over a dozen articles on Schubert, including Deutsch on the Walter Scott songs, Plunket Greene on Songs as the singer sees them, and the famous article by Tovey on Tonality. Very well worth getting if you can find a copy.

Notes: A special edition of the Österreichische Musikzeitschrift magazine for the Schubert birth bicentenary, a sort of updated version of the Music and Letters mentioned above. Published in both German and English. About 100 pages with statements from various 'stars', 6 major articles, book reviews and more.

Notes: Collection of essays by Deutsch, Kobald, Orel, Pfordten, etc. Includes several facsimiles. Amongst the articles are ones on the Arpeggione, an 'unknown' autograph of Schäfers Klagelied, the Birthhouse and a review of Schubertian buildings in Vienna. A very special centenary magazine.

Author: Alec Robinson and Peter Latham Title: How to use the Gramophone in School IV Schubert
Desc: Gramophone Co., London, 1928. 32pp, including HMV Schubert Discography.

Notes: Pamphlet with tiny biography, suggested programmes (all from HMV records - not an enormous choice !) and listening notes, plus advert for contemporary Gramophone. Written 'to help teachers to formulate ideas for the Schubert centenary'. A very nice period piece, which managed to get to a third edition by December 1928, but then they were free ! There was also an edition produced in Australia in 1928.

Notes: An souvenir 'album' produced for the death centenary, my copy was given with the compliments of the Hotel Metropole. Has about 80 contemporary photographs about half of which are of Schubert 'sites'. Also has a (terrible) short biography, in both German and English.

Notes: Illustrated catalogue of the Schubert 150th death anniversary exhibition at the Vienna Stadt- und Landesbibliothek in Vienna in 1978. In German and English, with over 300 pages, and many illustrations, including many documents and autographs. Well worth searching out (I have a copy that used to belong to John Reed).

Notes: Illustrated catalogue of the Schubert exhibitions held at Schloss Achberg and Lindau Museum in 1997. The catalogue is beautifully presented, with a few short essays by the editors, and plenty of illustrations of the exhibits, on Schubert the person, composer and background, and on his reception history including the operetta history and kitsch merchandising. Excellent.

Notes: Various versions of the guide for the museum at Franz Schubert's birth and death houses.All versions have descriptions of exhibits with a few pictures, and one or more articles. The first guide (Vienna, 1912, 2nd version 1917) has an unsigned introduction. The 1950s versions was written by Otto Erich Deutsch, and the SIRC contains annotated versions which Deutsch discussed with Brown. The 1990s versions include a couple of short articles, and a short family tree by Heinz Schöny.
